Salvation Army Learning Center

The Learning Center is a hub for resources and a place for people seeking employment and other life improvement skills. The Center features laptop and printers; classes range from personal budgeting to office skills; and incentives are provided to make learning even more valuable, such as clothing vouchers for work outfits.

The Learning Center is open Mon-Fri, 9am-12pm and 1-4pm. Classes begin May 27 and are offered at various times during the week. Registration is requested by calling The Salvation Army at 573-442-3229. Name, phone number, and class are needed; leaving a message is fine.

The Salvation Army, Harbor House, provides shelter, warm meals, showers, laundry, life skills classes, and case management for those who have fallen on hard times, and for those who struggle with chronic homelessness.

Intake is 8:00-10:00 a.m. and on a fisrt-come basis. Intakes available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, except holidays. Call the afternoon before to see if there's any available openings next morning.

Lunch served for the public every day from 12:00-1:00 p.m.

There are two separate houses - One for families and one for adults.  To get into either one, a background check must be completed, no active warrants, not on any sex offenders list, and no more than 2 aggressive charges in a lifetime.  We are also drug/alcohol free so a drug test will be given prior to acceptance.

Shelter KC: A Kansas City Rescue Mission -Men

Shelter KC Men's Center offers 3 programs:
- A 60+ bed short-term emergency shelter.
- Shelter KC offers homeless men two weeks of emergency shelter. After that time, they are encouraged to join the Shelter Launch program. This program connects shelter guests with a life coach to create a launch plan with the resources they need to obtain independent housing including: physical, mental, and spiritual health; finances, legal issues, job search, and housing search.
- Shelter KC offers the Christian Community of Recovery (C-COR) to men in our emergency overnight homeless shelter who struggle with a life-controlling addiction. C-COR is a trust and responsibility-based recovery environment and is designed to disciple men toward a committed and sober life in Jesus Christ.

Mother’s Refuge

Mother's Refuge operates a maternity shelter for pregnant and parenting moms ages 12-21, and a Transitional Living Program (TLP) for single moms 18 and older. Moms in our shelter can stay up until their baby's first birthday, and up to three years in our TLP. Along with shelter and nutritious meals, we provide whole-person care including individualized case management, access to education, access to health care, counseling, and life skills training on topics such as pregnancy and parenting, healthy relationships, career and finance, and more.
