1942 Dodge WC-53 Carryall
Tim Scherrer
STORY: "Sparky" was built by the Dodge Warren, Michigan truck plant on the 5th of December 1942 for the U.S. Army. Sparky served as a radio truck during it's military service based upon it's configuration, although the location of service is not known. It later served with the Pitkin, Colorado Volunteer Fire Department as a hose truck until around 1990. It was then purchased by Danny Gurling of Perryton, TX in the Texas Panhandle, who restored it in January of 1992. It participated in many parade to include the 50th Anniversary end of WWII parade with President George Bush in 1995. Danny passed away a few years ago and his widow sold it to LTC (ret) Tim Scherrer of Columbia, Missouri in May of 2025.
Sparky is marked to represent one of the 15 radio Carryall trucks that served at the Central Signal Corps Replacement Training Center at Camp Crowder Missouri near Neosho. While it is not directly known if Sparky served there, the set up of the truck matches those that served there. The 7 pointed star represents the 7th Area Service Command of Camp Crowder.
