Affordable Housing Coalition - Our goal is to provide a united voice for development of more affordable housing and promote the various projects of the coalition members. We want to raise awareness about the current housing crisis and give community members opportunities to respond individually and by forming partnerships. Meetings include reports from various partners who are developing housing stock and educational presentations about the current state of affordable housing, local housing history, and current efforts.

The coalition meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 3:00 PM at the Love Columbia Center. To receive meeting notices, contact: communityservices@boonecountymo.org.

VITA- As a VITA site we offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their tax returns. While certain situations are out-of-scope, generally we are able to provide these services to people with low to moderate income, persons with disabilities, and some others.

While the IRS manages the VITA program, the VITA sites are operated by IRS partners like us, and staffed by volunteers who want to make a difference in their communities. In our case, we are able to help our clients and others in the community meet their obligation to file without the significant expense of a paid preparer or an opportunistic lending company, and often the clients receive much-needed refunds they otherwise would have missed

All VITA/TCE volunteers who prepare returns must take and pass tax law training that meets or exceeds IRS standards. Over the three years since beginning this service, Love Columbia has assisted in successfully filing over 300 tax returns for free.

Growth Mindset Training - Learn how to persist through setbacks and see challenges as opportunities for growth. Growth Mindset is a four session course offered every Thursday from 5:15 PM to 6:15 PM at Love Columbia (1209 E Walnut St). There is no cost to attend, and you can start any week!

RentWell - Become an informed and preferred renter! RentWell is a 5-part class that will make you a renter that landlords prefer. Topics include: What do landlords want? Can I afford it? Where can I find a rental? Where can I get legal help if needed? As well as information on maintenance, safety, communication, who’s responsible and more.

HUD First Time Homebuyer Workshop - Comprehensive course that covers topics such as the home buying process, financing options, credit management, and post-purchase concerns. The course is designed to equip first-time homebuyers with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions throughout the home buying process. The in-person class is offered 6 times a year. One-on-one coaching sessions are also available.

Pre-Homeownership Class - Learn how to work toward becoming financially ready to pursue homeownership. The class will provide credit building skills and advice from real estate lenders on how to prepare for homeownership. One on one counseling will be provided if needed in addition to the class.

Loops of Love - Bimonthly crocheting and knitting group designed to “create friendships one loop at a time.” All levels of experience are welcome.
