Affordable Housing Coalition

Community members coming together to see everyone housed.

The Affordable Housing Coalition started as an informal group in 2021, and became the Upward Mobility Affordable Housing Workgroup in June 2023. It is dedicated to increasing affordable housing stock by raising community awareness about our local housing shortage and inviting community members to join together to identify and promote solutions that best serve Boone County. The workgroup seeks to bring diverse perspectives and resources together by including concerned citizens and members of business, government, education, and social service sectors in order to best serve the interests of all residents and optimally use our collective talent, skills, and resources to see our neighbors housed.

Coalition members have researched and presented on a wide range of topics and strategies used in other communities to promote affordable housing. This education helped prioritize local policy areas such as accessory dwelling units and nonconforming lots that have been successfully addressed.  The City/County-funded housing study completed in Fall 2024 now provides data and recommendations for the coalition to consider and expand upon with further research and partner action.

Meetings include reports from various partners who are developing housing stock, educational presentations and strategy discussions.

The coalition meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 3:00 PM at the Love Columbia Center. To receive meeting notices, contact: communityservices@boonecountymo.org.
