Adaptive swim lessons: Provides a safe, enjoyable recreation experience for individuals who have physical disabilities, impairments or are developmentally disabled. The participation of a family member is encouraged and may be required.

We understand that the vast majority of people with disabilities never have the experience of independently riding a conventional two-wheel bicycle during their lifetime. Research shows that over 80% of people with Autism and 90% of people with Down syndrome never experience this thrill. Defying these odds is why we exist!

We have been providing quality equine experiences for riders of all abilities since 2010. Through adaptive riding lessons and summer camp, more than 30 individuals per year have gained confidence and have grown as people by interacting with the horses.

Adapted Gymnastics is a program coordinated between MU Physical Therapy and Tiger Academy of Gymnastics. With the help of PT and other Health Professions students, children ages 3-18 with various impairments are able to safely participate in modified gymnastics, gross motor and socialization activities based on each child’s individual needs. Adapted Gymnastics typically meets 10 sessions each fall and spring semester on Sundays from 3-5:30pm.

At Camp Barnabas, we invite people with disabilities and chronic illnesses to experience a Christian summer camp built with them in mind. Our goal is to make sure everyone has the best week of their lives. Our Campers are individuals ages 7 and up with a variety of diagnoses: developmental and physical disabilities, chronic illnesses, autism spectrum disorder, cancer, hemophilia, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, amputated limbs, atypically formed limbs, visual impairment, hearing impairment, spina bifida, and many other rare and debilitating diseases.

Cedar Creek was founded in 1988 and provides comprehensive equine assisted therapy to more than 150 individuals per year. Each Spring, Summer and Fall, hundreds of community members come to Cedar Creek to volunteer their time to be part of the therapy team. All classes include instructors that are certified by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH).

Camp Hickory Hill is a residential camp that sustains a community, culture and medically sound program of support for persons with diabetes. Located just 5 miles north of Columbia, Missouri, camp is held each year during the month of either June or July, for children who have type 1 diabetes and are between the ages of 7 and 17.
To ensure not one is turned away, there are several options for participating in camp, including a no interest payment plan and two programs that will subsidize either part or all the cost of camp for those who qualify.
