The library is free and open to everyone. Those interested in checking out materials and using the free online resources may apply for a free library card. Apply online or at the library.
In addition to being able to check out books, you can borrow music CDs, DVDs, magazines, early learning kits for children, fiber arts kits, Memory Care kits, Parent Packs for new and expectant parents, STEAM kits, telescopes and mobile Wi-Fi hotspots. You can reserve most items by placing a hold online or at any library, and then pick them up inside the library or via curbside pickup.
There are many opportunities taking place at the library that don’t require a library card including programs for all ages, a quiet reading room and a special interactive play area for children. You may take advantage of the free Wi-Fi in the building or use one of the public computers. To use the computers, you either need a library card or a guest pass. You may also scan, make copies and print documents for a small fee.
● NEW Nov. 2025 - Read to Succeed, a program that teaches adults who struggle with reading. The program focuses on teaching adults who are 18 and older whose primary language is English. Each student will be paired with a volunteer instructor, most of whom will have a background in education. All learning materials are free for the student.
The Read to Succeed program has locations at Columbia Public Library, Callaway County Public Library in Fulton, Holts Summit Public Library and Southern Boone Public Library in Ashland. An online option is also available.

CMCA - ShowMe Healthy Relationships

ShowMe Healthy Relationships Program offers free relationship education courses to those that want to learn more about healthy relationships in their lives. Most of the classes are offered remotely and are available to anyone in the state of Missouri. Those eligible are at least 18 years of age, live in the state of Missouri and are able to attend five weeks of classes as well as complete the intake and sign-up process.

The King’s Daughters & Sons’ (KD & S) Dental Aid Program provides dental care to eligible students from the Columbia Public Schools, in cooperation with school district staff and Columbia dentists. School district nurses refer students who need dental care and have no financial resources to cover services. The program serves eligible students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Uninsured (emergency services only) and underinsured patients are asked to complete a sliding fee application prior to service. Lowest co-pay for sliding scale is $20 per visit.
