Content updated Dec. 15, 2023

Preschool screening is the first step to see if a child would qualify for any preschool services offered by Columbia Public Schools. Children must complete a preschool screening and be determined eligible before being offered a placement in a Title 1 Preschool classroom. Registration for enrollment must be completed at the office of the designated school before beginning school. Parents/guardians must attend an orientation session with their child and the child’s teacher.

Content updated Aug. 16, 2024

Columbia/Boone County Healthy Families is a home visiting program set up to help families who are screened as high risk. We serve families with histories of substance abuse, mental health issues, histories of trauma, housing instability, etc. Our referrals come to us through Brighter Beginnings.

Per C/BCHF spokesperson, a better first point of contactfor families is with Brighter Beginnings. That way, clients will get to which ever home visiting program fits them best. If they are not wanting home visiting but want to speak with someone about their pregnancy, apply for MPW, and find out more about social services in the community, they can call our Social Services at 817-6430.
