The Family Support Division is a state-administered agency responsible by law for administration of the programs and services.The Family Support Division (FSD) can help you or your family with food stamps, health care, child care, child support, and other needs. Health Care

Missouri's Medicaid program is called MO HealthNet. MO HealthNet covers qualified medical expenses for individuals who meet certain eligibility requirements.MO HealthNet (Medicaid) for People with Disabilities provides medical care for persons who are Permanently and Totally Disabled (PTD) and meet other eligibility requirements.  After your application has been processed, you will receive a letter from the Family Support Division. If you are eligible for services, you will be issued a “MO HealthNet Identification Card,” and explanation of the medical services available to you. If you’ve already enrolled, go to Mo Health Net https://dss.mo.gov/mhd/for assistance using your benefits or finding a doctor. Note: Low income individuals who are not disabled also qualify as well as children.

Food Stamp Program
To apply for the Food Stamp Program, you must complete the application for food stamp benefits. You can drop off, mail, fax or complete an application at a Family Support Division (FSD) office.

In most cases, you will need to complete an interview and provide or help FSD get the requested documentation in order to process your Food Stamp application. They will call the number listed on your application to complete your phone interview within 3 days of receiving your application. You will typically know if you are eligible for Food Stamp benefits within 30 days.

You can go to the DSS office (601 Business Loop 70 W #272, Columbia, MO 65203) and complete the phone interview using a phone from their phone bank as it can be difficult to return an interview call if you miss their original attempt.

Child Care Subsidy
The Child Care Subsidy Program assists eligible Missouri parents and guardians with payments for child care. You may be eligible for this program if you are a low-income parent of a child 13 or younger (or older than 13 with special needs) and are working, in training or school, searching for a job, homeless, disabled, and/or receiving child welfare services from the Children’s Division. Apply online at https://dss.mo.gov/fsd/child-care-apply.htm or complete the printed application and mail it or turn it in at Family Support Division 615 E 13th St. Kansas City, MO 64106. Once FSD has received your application, you will be contacted for an interview.

Child Support
The Child Support program responsibilities include locating parents, establishing paternity, establishing child and medical support orders, monitoring and enforcing compliance with child and medical support orders, reviewing and initiating modification of support orders and distributing support collections.

Temporary Assistance
The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, also known as Temporary Assistance (TA), is a program designed to provide cash benefits to low-income families for the household’s children such as clothing, utilities and other services. Upon approval of TA, the recipient must participate in employment and training services through the Missouri Work Assistance (MWA) program. The MWA program helps TA recipients transition from TA to a job by helping set goals and get the skills needed to find a job and support the recipient’s family.  You can find instructions for applying here.
