1940 Chevy

Dan Cornell

STORY: This is a 1940 Chevy. I went with a couple of friends to look at an old 1940 car.  One of them was going to buy it but decided not too.  They said it would be a great bonding project with my son Justin.  At the time, he was 15.  So ok, I bought it.  Now he is 44.

My friend Gordon was helping us build it. I bought a 1971 Nova fastback with no motor and we put the Nova front end on it.  We slowly proceeded to work on it and never could get Justin there to help because of school, ect. Garaged it for years.  Had a 1977 Camaro redone by Duke's Autobody in Camdenton, Missouri. Then decided to finish 1940 Chevy.  Took 1940 Chevy to Duke's and he finished the exterior.  Had Jeff Dickey rebuild the 350cc engine to 383cc(stroker motor). Then it sat for years.

Last September 2024, Vic Simms helped start the motor after years sitting. Started fine after his expertise.(Good Mechanic) Finally, decided to finish interior which was done by Bill See's Auto Trim.  Finished in June 2025. Still adding a few touches here and there.
Here's to Justin, my son for picking color scheme.  For Ron and Greg for talking me into buying it.  Bought motor from Tommy Persinger.
Thanks for the journey but glad it's done. You're never done with an old car. Thanks. - Dan Cornell
