How to get a Drivers License

1. Obtain a MO Drivers manual from the Department of Revenue (DOR).

2. Study all materials. Permit Practice Test

3. Take the written test at the location above.

Monday- Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Must be completed by 4:50

 You will need to provide the following

A. Name, date of birth, place of birth

For US Citizens:

  • Birth certificate

  • Passport

  • U.S. Certificate of Citizenship or Birth abroad

  • U.S. Military ID card or discharge papers + Birth cert.

Non-U.S. Citizen

  • Immigration documents indication applicant’s status

B. Social Security Number

C. Missouri Residential Address- PO box not valid

  • Utility bill

  • Paycheck

  • Govt Check

  • Mortgage Document

  • Voter registration card

  • Property tax receipt

  • Housing rental contract

  • Bank statement

D. If you have a name change you will need

  • Certified marriage certificate

  • Certified divorce decree

  • Certified court order

  • Certified adoption papers or amended birth certificate

  • US Passport

 4. The test consists of 25 multiple choice questions of which you must answer 20 correctly to pass.

 5. If you pass the test you may go next door to have your picture taken for your permit. You will receive a paper copy of your permit to use until the official one is mailed to you.

The cost is $3.50.

 6.  If you do not pass the test you may take it again that day, and up to two times per day until you pass.

 7. Begin your driving instruction with a licensed driver over 21 or a driving instructor.

 8. You must have your learners permit for at least 6 month and accumulate at least 40 hours of driving instruction, which includes at least 10 hours of night time driving, before you attempt the driving test. When you feel you are ready, return to the office on Vandiver for the driving test Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:20 p.m.

9. If you pass your test you will have your picture taken for your license.

$7.50 for an intermediate license for youth ages 16-18

$10.00 for individuals 18-20 years

$22.00 for individuals over 21 years of age.

10. If you take the test 3 times without passing, you will need to accumulate and document another 40 hours of practice and return for testing.
